THE PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT IS DOING A PUBLIC SURVEY RIGHT NOW FOR GETTING YOUR IDEAS ON PROGRAMMING. I WOULD ENCOURAGE PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT OPPORTUNITY AND SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS AND ANSWER THOSE QUESTIONS FOR PARKS AND REX SO WE CAN BETTER DELIVER THE SERVICES THAT YOU ARE ASKING FOR. PLEASE BE LOOKING FOR THAT OR LOOK FOR A WAY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT.

OUR TRASH AND MISTY IS RIGHT ON DOING -- GOING ON RIGHT NOW AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET INTO SOME THINGS THAT YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE TAKEN THAT TIME TO DO. AS YOU GO THROUGH YOUR SPRING CLEANING. I GOT A GREAT E-MAIL TODAY AND THEY FOLLOW UP PHONE CALL BY A GENTLEMAN HIS NAME IS ALAN KNIGHT AND HE IS RETIRED MONTGOMERY FIREFIGHTER WHO MOVED TO AUBURN FIVE YEARS AGO. HE WENT ON AND ON ABOUT ALL OF THE GREAT SERVICES THAT OUR CITY IS PROVIDING AND HOW HAPPY HE HAS BEEN LIVING IN AUBURN. HE SPECIFICALLY CALLED ME TODAY TO BRAG ON OUR ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES TEAM AND MYSTERIES AND HIS DELIVERY OF SERVICES TO HIS HOUSE AND TO HIS NEIGHBORS.

SO I JUST WANT TO THANK ALL OF OUR EMPLOYEES AGAIN UNTIL YOU THAT YOU ARE APPRECIATED AND HERE IS A GENTLEMAN WHO IS A MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEE FOR MANY YEARS, RETIRED AS A MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEE BUT CHOSE TO MOVE AND RETIRE IN AUBURN.

ABOUT? >> SPEAKER: BECKY, WHAT DO YOU

APPROACH THE PODIUM? >> SPEAKER: OUR COMMUNITY PROGRAMS DIVISION IS WORKING WITH COMMUNICATIONS AT THE UNIVERSITY AND THEY HAVE DEVELOPED A SURVEY TO GET INTEREST IN WHAT PEOPLE WOULD LIKE TO SEE PERHAPS IN NEW PROGRAMS OR DIFFERENT PROGRAMS OR EXPANSION OF PROGRAMS. IT IS AN ONLINE SURVEY. THEY WILL ALSO HAVE FOCUS GROUPS AND SUCH ONCE THE SURVEY IS COMPLETE.

>> SPEAKER: SO WHEN YOU SAY PROGRAMS YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT

ACTIVITIES? >> SPEAKER: YES.

>> SPEAKER: THE MURAL COMMITTEE MET YESTERDAY AT THE GYM BOSTON MEETING ROOM. WE ARE MEETING EVERY SECOND WEEK UNTIL THE END OF MAY. WE HAD THREE INVITED SPEAKERS ATTEND. ONE WAS FROM THE DREW COLLINS SMITH MUSEUM OF ART, THE SECOND WAS FROM THE MONTGOMERY ART COMMISSION, AND THE THIRD WAS FROM THE AUBURN-OPELIKA TOURISM.

WE HAD A LONG DISCUSSION ABOUT APPROACHING PUBLIC ART FROM A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT WAYS. IT WAS VERY INTERESTING TO THINK BROADER ABOUT ARTS IN THE PUBLIC SPHERE.

YOU JUST GAVE US YET SOME MORE INFORMATION TO RUMINATE UPON.

WE HAVE ALL BEEN SET WITH THE TASK FOR NEXT TUESDAY TO SPEND SOME TIME BETWEEN NOW AND THEN TO THINK ABOUT THE PROS AND CONS OF WHAT IT MAY LOOK LIKE TO HAVE SOME TYPE OF CITY COMMISSION INVOLVED IN THE REGULATION OF PUBLIC ART.

WE HAVE CERTAINLY -- WE ARE CERTAINLY NOWHERE NEAR MAKING ANY CONCLUSIONS AT THIS POINT, BUT WE ARE DIGGING INTO THE MATERIAL AND TRYING TO FIND SOME COMPARABLE CITIES TO DO SOME COMPARE AND CONTRAST ABOUT HOW VARIOUS CITIES IN OUR STATE HANDLE THE IDEA OF PUBLIC ART. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO SHARING AND LEARNING MORE IN THESE NEXT UPCOMING MEETINGS.

>> SPEAKER: THANK YOU. ANYONE ELSE?

>> SPEAKER: I HAVE A COUPLE OF THINGS.

YESTERDAY I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO WELCOME THE SOUTH EASTERN METER SCHOOLS. THOSE ARE INDIVIDUALS WHO WORK IN UTILITIES AND TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH METERING. IT WAS VERY FASCINATING.

THEY EVEN HAD A SESSION ON ELECTRIC VEHICLES, WHICH MAYBE SOMETHING THAT WE DISCUSSED LATER AS A CITY.

THEY HAVE 350 INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE VISITING US FROM AROUND THE SOUTH AND BEYOND SO IF YOU SEE THEM OUT AND ABOUT BETWEEN NOW AND THURSDAY, JUST WELCOME THEM. THEY ARE A FUN GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS. AND THEN THE HOUND IS CELEBRATING THEIR TEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY AND I KNOW THAT THIS BODY WORKS WITH THEM A WHILE TO GET THEM WHERE THEY ARE SO I JUST WANT TO SAY CONGRATULATIONS TO TEN YEARS.

AND SINCE WE ARE ON THE TOPIC OF PARTS AND DIRECT, BARK IN THE PARK IS THIS WEEKEND. BRING OUT YOUR FOUR-LEGGED FURRY FRIENDS AND ENJOY A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE CITY.

I'M PRETTY SURE THE FIRST SPRING BREAK IN TWO YEARS FIRST OFFICIAL SPRING BREAK. I'M SURE EVERY STUDENT REALLY APPRECIATED THAT. THERE HAVE BEEN A LOT OF GREAT THINGS HAPPENING AROUND AUBURN LATELY.

THE UNIVERSITY WOULD JUST RECOGNIZE WITH A 2022 ACTIVE MIND TOWARD. IT IS ONLY ONE OF FIVE CAMPUSES IN THE COUNTRY TO GET THIS IDEA -- AWARD SO IT'S A BIG DEAL. IT IS A TESTAMENT TO ALL OF THE INNOVATIVE SERVICES THAT AUBURN HAS TO OFFER STUDENTS IN REGARD TO MENTAL HEALTH, THINK THEY'RE TRYING TO IMPROVE.

WE'RE REALLY PROUD ABOUT THAT. ALONG THE SAME LINES THE COLLEGE OF VETERINARY MEDICINE WHICH IS ORDERED A $24 MILLION CONTRACT BY THE DEPARTMENT HOMELAND SECURITY SO THEY CAN FURTHER ADVANCED DETECTION AND K-9 SCIENCES AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

YOU HAVE THREE MINUTES AND WE ASK THAT YOU PLEASE COME FORWARD AND GIVE US YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS FOR THE RECORD AND REMEMBER THAT YOUR COMMENTS SHOULD BE DIRECTED TOWARDS THE

CITY COUNCIL. >> SPEAKER: MY NAME IS ROBERT

[00:15:04]

WILKINS TO 61 DIDN'T AND AUBURN, ALABAMA.

FIRST I WANTED TO COMPLIMENT THE MAYOR AND THE COUNCIL ITSELF BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE SOMETIMES I GET UP HERE AND I TALK A LOT ABOUT THE SITUATION THAT I THINK YOU ALL ARE WRONG ON THE SITUATION. I KNOW THAT YOU GIVE A LOT OF TIME AND A LOT OF EFFORT TO BE A COUNCILMAN.

I HAVE BEEN A LITTLE BIT BEHIND THE POLITICAL SCENE IN THE PAST AND I UNDERSTAND THAT. IT IS A DIFFICULT TASK.

BUT SOMETIMES YOU MAKE MISTAKES SO I'M WORKING ON THAT CORRECTED THAT ERROR. I WANTED TO SAY THAT THE FIVE THAT VOTED FOR THE ORDINANCE 3288 I FEEL LIKE THAT PROBABLY NOW THAT AT LEAST ONE OF YOU OR MORE WOULD PROBABLY NOT VOTE FOR THAT. BUT OF COURSE ONE WOULD HAVE MADE BEEN AT A TIME AND IT WOULD NOT HAVE GONE ON.

I WANTED TO TALK ABOUT THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS THAT I HAVE SEEN THE ORDINANCE 3288 ACCOMPLISH. IT IS ACCOMPLISHED LOTS OF CITY REVENUE -- LOSS OF CITY REVENUE. I PAID THREE TIMES MORE IN SALES TAX ON IT IN PROPERTY TAX. INCREASE CITY EXPENDITURES.

AN EMPLOYEE WITH THE BENEFITS OF THAT EMPLOYEE, A TRUCK, THE EXPENSES OF THAT TRUCK AND THE SOFTWARE TRICK I'M NOT SURE WHY THAT MUCH WAS SPENT. A LOSS OF INCOME BY 151 AUBURN FAMILIES, DISCRIMINATION AGAINST THE HALF OF THE CITY.

NO CHANGES OR IMPROVEMENTS WERE ACCOMPLISHED BY THE CITY THAT I CAN TELL BUT MAYBE SOMEDAY WHEN Y'ALL CAN TELL ME MORE ABOUT THAT. MY FIRST TIME THAT I WAS CONTACTED BY THE CITY I WAS GIVEN A CEASE-AND-DESIST ORDER.

IT HAD YOUR NAMES OF ALL OF US YOU DID CONTACT US ABOUT ANYTHING. UNTIL YOU HAVE A CEASE-AND-DESIST. I FEEL LIKE OUT OF 150 WHAT I DON'T THINK THERE IS A LOT OF PEOPLE TO RESPOND AND DEAL WITH.

THE CITY OF AUBURN DECLARED MY HOUSE AS A HOTEL AND I HAVE A FOUR BEDROOM HOUSE. JUST OFF OF SANFORD ON NICK VINCENT DRIVE I DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT PHILOSOPHY.

MY NEIGHBORHOOD KIDS LEMONADE STAND, ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE IT A RESTAURANT NOW? SOMEONE GIVING A PIANO LESSON IN THEIR HOMES WILL THAT MAKE IT A STUDIO? HAVING A YARD SALE AT THE HOUSE IS THAT GOING TO BE A NEW STOREFRONT? DOING SOMETHING, SOME QUILTING IN THE HOME IS THAT GOING TO BE A THRIFT STORE? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE? YOU HAVE TAKEN MY HOME AND DONE THAT. SO I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE MAYOR AND THE COUNCIL ARE GOING TO DECLARE NEXT.

I APPRECIATE Y'ALL'S TIME. >> SPEAKER: THANK YOU WHO WILL BE NEXT?
