PLEASE BE SEATED. EARLIER DURING THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE THE CITY COUNCIL HAD NO BUSINESS THIS EVENING, SO WE'LL BEGIN WITH ANNOUNCEMENTS. I WANT TO THANK THE AUBURN UNIVERSITY BOARD OF TRUSTEES FOR HAVING ME OVER A COUPLE WEEKS AGO TO GIVE AN UPDATE FROM THE CITY.

IT'S QUITE AN HONOUR TO SPEAK TO THE LEADERS OF OUR UNIVERSITY WHILE THEY ARE GOING THROUGH ONE OF THEIR WORK SESSIONS.

AND I APPRECIATE THEIR SINCERE INTEREST WITH WHAT WE'RE DOING IN OUR CITY AND HOW IT INVOLVES OUR FACULTY AND STUDENTS AND STAFF. I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO THE ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT FOR TAKING A SMALL PART OF THE PARTICIPATION FOR THE GOLF TEAM'S NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP CELEBRATION AT TUMOURS A COUPLE WEEKS AGO. UNFORTUNATELY THAT IS THE SECOND TIME IN THREE YEARS THAT THAT HAS OCCURRED AND WHAT A GREAT PROGRAM THAT REPRESENTS OUR COMMUNITY AND OUR UNIVERSITY VERY, VERY WELL ANDABLE AND JACKSON COIVAN PLAYING IN THE U.S. OPEN THIS WEEK AND HAS TURNED PRO.

WANT TO THANK THE DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REPUBLIC AND HABITAT FOR INVITING ME LAST WEEK TO FLAG DAY CEREMONY WHERE A FLAG WAS PRESENTED TO A NEW HOMEOWNER.

THAT IS A PARTNERSHIP THAT'S BEEN GOING ON SINCE I WAS ELECTED AND I THINK BOTH ORGANS DO A GREAT JOB FOR HOSTING THAT RECOGNITION. I WANT TO THANK EAST ALABAMA HEALTH. THE CANCER SURVIVORS PICNIC WAS HELD OVER IN THE SPRING VILLA, AND MYSELF AND MAYOR SMITH SPOKE TO THAT GROUP OF PEOPLE. WHAT A GROUP OF WARRIORS THAT IS, PEOPLE WHO FOUGHT THE FIGHT AGAINST CANCER AND ARE CURRENTLY IN REMISSION. THERE WERE A LOT OF HAPPY PEOPLE THAT DAY, AND I JUST APPRECIATE OUR OWN VANESSA RAN THE SHOW THAT DAY. AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORK AND YOUR ASSISTANCE, AND IT WAS A GREAT EVENT.

THE SOCCER EVENT CAME AND WENT AND THE PUBLIC RELATIONS AND THE POSITIVE PR THAT CAME FROM THAT, OUR TOWN AND UNIVERSITY HAS BEEN SUBSTANTIAL. CERTAINLY I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO OUR PUBLIC SAFETY MEN AND WOMEN AND ANYBODY ELSE IN THE STAFF THAT HAD TO DEAL WITH THE FLOOD THAT OCCURRED TWO HOURS BEFORE THE GAME STARTED. IT WAS QUITE SUBSTANTIAL.

I HAVE TOLD PEOPLE THAT I EVEN THOUGHT IT WAS BIBLICAL AT TIMES THERE WAS SO MUCH WATER THAT CAME DOWN.

BUT IT ALL HAPPENED. THE GAME HAPPENED.

ALL THE PEOPLE SHOWED UP. AND I BELIEVE IT WILL BE A NET POSITIVE. WE LOOK FORWARD TO SOME OF THE ECONOMIC STORIES THAT WILL BE PROVIDED IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

BUT I APPRECIATE EVERYBODY PITCHING IN TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN.

OUR OWN ANDY BIRCHMAN WILL BE INDUCTED INTO THE HALL OF FAME NEXT WEEK. I AM PROUD OF HIM.

HE HAS BEEN A LOYAL, LOYAL MEMBER OF THIS COMMUNITY FOR AENING ALTHOUGH, LONG TIME AS HE HAS CALLED THE GAMES OVER AT AUBURN UNIVERSITY. AND HE HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED APPROPRIATELY. WANT TO SAY CONGRATULATIONS AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR NEIGHBOUR SMITHS WHO CELEBRATED THEIR 25TH BIRTHDAY LAST WEEKEND. AND WE THINK AS AUBURN IS APPROACHING A 200TH BIRTHDAY IN THE NEAR FUTURE THAT SMITHES IS STILL A VERY, VERY YOUNG TOWN AND MAYOR COOLLY IS A FINE MAN AND DOING A FINE JOB DOWN THERE BUT CONGRATULATIONS TO THEM.

WE'LL REMIND EVERYONE BEFORE WE GET BACK TO TOGETHER THE 4TH OF JULY WILL HAVE COME AND GONE, AND I JUST WANT TO THANK EVERYBODY ON OUR STAFF THAT PROVIDES THE 4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS. THAT IS A HEAVY LIFT.

MANY OF US GET THE DAY OFF AND GET TO GO AND CELEBRATE AND BE WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS OUT OF TOWN OR IN OTHER PLACES AND A LOT OF OUR STAFF ARE AROUND THE STADIUM MAKING SURE WE CAN ENJOY A FIREWORKS SHOW, AND I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU WHO WILL GIVE UP YOUR FOURTH OF JULY WITH YOUR FAMILIES TO BE A PART OF THAT. SINCE WE HAVE GOT TOGETHER BEFORE WE GET TOGETHER NEXT TIME THERE WILL HAVE BEEN SUBSTANTIAL GOLF, SWIMMING, AND TENNIS EVENTS IN OUR COMMUNITY.

SPORTS TOURISM HAS BECOME IMPORTANT TO AUBURN.

THERE WILL BE THOUSANDS OF FOLKS THAT ARE GOING TO COME THROUGH OUR COMMUNITY OVER THE NEXT COUPLE WEEKS TO PARTICIPATE IN THESE EVENTS, AND WE ARE THANKFUL TO HAVE THE TYPES OF FACILITIES AND PARTNERSHIPS TO MAKE THESE EVENTS HAPPEN.

THEY PROVIDE GOOD THINGS FOR OUR COMMUNITY BY THE TOURISM

REVENUES THAT ARE LEFT HERE IN OUR COMMUNITY.

AND ALSO THERE'S GOING TO BE ENGINEERING, ARCHITECTURE, AND TRANSPORTATION CONFERENCES THAT WILL BE HELD IN AUBURN OVER THE LAST COUPLE WEEKS. AUBURN IS A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE BUT THERE'S ALSO PEOPLE THAT REALLY DESIRE TO BE HERE.

WE ARE THANKFUL FOR THAT, FOR WHAT THEY BRING TO OUR COMMUNITY. AND NEXT WEEK I GET TO EAT LUNCH WITH NEW VENTURE ACCELERATOR STUDENTS IN THE TIGER CAGE COMPETITION. THESE ARE STUDENTS WE ARE TRYING TO CONVINCE THAT AUBURN MIGHT BE A GREAT PLACE FOR THEM TO STAY AFTER THEY GET THROUGH COLLEGE AND JUST TO TALK ABOUT WHAT THEIR DREAMS AND AMBITIONS ARE. WE ARE BLESSED TO HAVE A GREAT STUDENT BODY HERE AT AUBURN UNIVERSITY, AND I CERTAINLY LOOK FORWARD AND THANKFUL TO BE INVITED TO SPEND SOME TIME WITH THEM. ANYONE ELSE?

I HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE AS AUBURN UNIVERSITY SGA'S DIRECTOR OF RELATIONS, AND I AM VERY GRATEFUL FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO COME SPEAK TO YOU ALL TODAY AND SHARE SOME GOOD NEWS ABOUT WHAT WE HAVE GOING ON THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER MONTHS OF OUR CAMPUS. FIRST THING I WANT TO HIGHLIGHT IS OUR SUMMER CAMPS. RIGHT NOW OUR CAMP IS CURRENTLY WELCOMING THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS AND VISITER FORS A WIDE VARIETY OF CAMPS WHETHER IT'S ACADEMIC SLASH LEADERSHIP CAMPS OR WHETHER IT'S ATHLETIC CAMPS SUCH AS FOOTBALL, BASKETBALL, CHEER.

ALL THESE CAMPS ARE VERY VALUABLE TO THE UNIVERSITY AS IT BRINGS FAMILIES FROM ALL ACROSS THE NATION TO SHOWCASE WHAT A WONDERFUL UNIVERSITY WE DO HAVE. THE OTHER THING I WANT TO HIGHLIGHT IS IT IS OFFICIALLY IN FULL SWING.

I TOLD YOU EARLIER BUT I DO HAVE THE HONOUR OF SERVING AS A COUNCILLOR FOR THE UNIVERSITY. WE JUST WRAPPED UP SESSION 6.

IT WAS A LITTLE RAINY BUT A VERY VALUABLE EXPERIENCE FOR ALL THOSE WHO PARTICIPATE, AND WE WORK VERY HARD TO MAKE SURE THEY HAVE A VERY SMOOTH TRANSITION TO THEIR FRESHMAN YEAR.

ALSO OUR SUMMER GLASS CLASSES ARE CONTINUING TO BE UNDERWAY.

IT IS VERY NICE TO SEE STUDENTS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS OPPORTUNITY TO CONTINUE ACADEMIC PROGRESS AND REALLY NICE TO SEE THE CAMPUS STILL ALIVE EVEN IN THOSE SUMMER MONTH.

THE PERFORMING ART CENTRE WILL HAVE A PERFORMANCE TOMORROW NIGHT. AGAIN, IT'S A VERY VALUABLE RESOURCE TO THE UNIVERSITY AS IT BRINGS FAMILIES TOGETHER TO SEE THE ARTIST WITHIN THE CITY OF AUBURN.

IN TERMS OF ATHLETIC, THE MAYOR KIND OF STOLE MY THUNDER THERE BUT OUR MEN'S GOLF TEAM TOOK HOME ANOTHER CHAMPIONSHIP.

THE SECOND IN THREE YEARS. VERY PROUD OF THEM.

AND OUR MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD TEAM HAD A COUPLE INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONS AS WELL. BUT THAT'S ALL FOR ME TONIGHT.

THERE IS A GOFUNDME THAT HAS BEEN RAISED WITH $25,000 OF THE HALF MILLION DOLLAR GOAL. SO THERE IS AN URGENT QUESTION THAT HAS ARISEN, WHICH ORGANIZATIONS WILL FINANCE THE BALANCE?
